WHAT IS CHICA (Children with Cancer in Namibia) 

It is a support group for families with children who have cancer. 

MISSION
In our fight to give children with cancer and life threatening blood disorders a better chance, we strive to foster increased public awareness and the advancement of professional knowledge and medical research, while enhancing the quality of life of patients and their families by offering emotional and financial support.

OBJECTIVES 

1.         Parent support group and what it involves?
-           Active parents in a team
-           Supporting of new parents
-           Education for new parents
-           Education of the community
-           Awareness in government
-           Encompass all cultures

2.         Volunteer support systems

3.         Attempt the distribution and understanding of the early warning signs of cancer in order to reach more patients/members of the public/scholars to ensure early detection and a more patients/members of the public/scholars to ensure early detection and a more favorable outcome.

TYPE OF CANCER WARNING SIGNS
 

Bowel

Diarrhea and/or constipation; blood in stool; weight loss

 

 

Brain

Headaches; weakness; slurred speech; personality changes

 

 

Breast

Painless lump; bleeding or discharge from nipple; change in breast sized or shape

 

 

Leukaemia

Tiredness, infections; bruising; bleeding gums

 

 

Lung

Cough; chest/shoulder pain; breathing difficulties; hoarse voice; blood in sputum

 

 

Prostate

Difficulties with passing urine; pain; blood in urine

 

 

Skin

Enlarged mole that bleeds, itches, changes appearance; two colors in a mole is suspicious; sores that don’t heal after three weeks

 

 

Bone

Abnormal swelling or lump; tiredness; nausea; dizziness; fever; headache
